New formula?

Sometimes I get a little bored looking at Lolita outfits that all have the same formula. It's always the same kind of shoes with the same kind of socks, the same kind of jewelry with the same kind of hair accessories and so on.
I feel the same way when I'm putting my own stuff together. I have so many of the same kind of necklaces for example. You all know it: The kind Accessorize sells; the ones that look like they were made to go with Lolita clothes. They're pretty, but sometimes I just a bit tired of all my outfits having the same kind of vibe.

So I spent some time putting together these outfits, taking two dress from Baby the Stars Shine Bright and pairing them with stuff mostly from highstreet shops for what is hopefully a slightly more mature look and fresh feel.

Black & White
Dress/Baby the Stars Shine Bright - Bolero/House of Fraser - Shoes/Sam Edelman (Asos) - Headpiece/Tequila Star - Socks/Miss Selfridge - Jewelry/Topshop

Pink & Red
Dress/Baby the Stars Shine Bright - Tights/Debenhams - Shoes/Boohoo - Jewelry/Topshop - Hairband/New Look - Blouse/John Lewis
What do you think?

I would love to wear both of these outfits. Though, the black and white one is my favourite, I really love those pink shoes too, haha :D

Currently loving..

Jewelry/Miss Selfridge - Shoes/Jeffrey Campbell - Jeans/Topshop - Jumpers/Gina Tricot

Yeah, I know I post Topshop stuff all the time, it's like "Sabrina! Get off the goddamn Topshop website!" but I just really like a lot of their stuff lately. I never used to before, I just thought it was all weird overpriced stuff. Now I think it's awesome looking overpriced stuff, haha. And yes, I'm totally loving the Campbell shoes these days.

I think I may have to go and get that unicorn jumper. It's just perfect. I'm acutally really loving Gina Tricot's Spring collection. They have so many pastels and cool 80s style stuff. I bought this awesome 80s tee with a galaxy print! Awesome!

But yeah, these items together do have sort of a pastel goth feel to them. I quite like that style actually. It's kind of the perfect combination of cute and creepy things. I've been thinking of doing a Lolita outfit in the style aswell with my purple deer skirt. Maybe.

They're kind of cute, no? :3

The Mirror Ball/Vince Noir Look

I really want that dress, though. Actually, I wouldn't mind this whole look, haha. Oh, Topshop, you tempt me with your ridiculous glitter stuff.

March 2012 Wishlist

Oh, the Black Milk leggings have been one my wishlist for a really long time. Maybe someday I'll decide that I'm okay with paying that price for a pair of leggings. Until then *sighs*

Okay, so these items don't really match. Well, not all of them anyway. But I quite like the leopard prints at the moment. I would have bought those items from Forever 21 if only they shipped to Denmark. But I may go and check out that Vero Moda dress.

When I'm not wearing Lolita, I wear..

In this entry, I'm going to focus on my style outside of Lolita, as it has changed drastically recently.

For the past three years or so I've been working on getting a decent Lolita wardrobe and cleaning out all of my "normal" clothes. So recently I found myself in a position in which I only had two non-lolita skirts to wear to work. I would also wear Lolita skirts a couple of times a week, but for the past many weeks, I've been switching between the same five boring outfits and I became so fed up with it that I went out and completely upgraded my wardrobe in one day, more or less.
The shopping gods were really on my side that day. I'd walk into shop after shop finding exactly what I was looking for. Keeping reading if you want to see some of those items.

Inspirations
Anyone who's been following my tumblr (http://savagelilly.tumblr.com) will probably have noticed my increasing obsession with The Mighty Boosh and Noel Fielding. I'm surprised I haven't lost all my followers by now, lol.

Evidence A
Vince Noir tshirt
Mighty Boosh messenger bag
Noel Fielding's book
Journey of the Childmen DVD
The Mighty Book of Boosh
Mighty Boosh overnight bag
So, um, yeah. 'Nuff said.

I really love Noel Fielding's glam rock influences, so I've tried to base my look off of that. Glam rock. So I've gone for lots of black and glitter. I'm actually becoming a little bit too much into glitter, probably. But I'm not worried. ;)

My work uniform is black or grey, so I had to take that into consideration as well.

But I'd like to show you some of the items I've bought recently. And I'll start from the bottom with shoes.
Silver glitter boots from Topshop
I've been wanting to get a pair of silver or glitter boots, but I looked around without luck. I had an image in my mind which was probably too specific for me to actually settle on anything but the ones I ended up getting. These boots were apparently very popular when Topshop sold them. They've been sold out for a while now, but I saw someone blogging about them and fell in love.
I found them on ebay in my size, but they were a bit overpriced. I debated back and forth with myself and ended up deciding that it would be better to spend a little extra and get the pair that I really wanted than go out and find something that would end up being a compromise.

The seller included this lovely gift. An eyeshadow from Topshop.

Moving on, I bought these black wedges, because I didn't have any black shoes that weren't Lolita style. These are really comfortable actually.
From Bianco
All right, moving on to tights and leggings. I realize that you can't see all the details in these photos, but it's just to give you an idea of the look. And no, I'm not doing a Fantasy Man costume, to those of you who were thinking that. ;)

Left to right
Gold leggings from Topshop
Leopard print legging from H&M
Black glitter tights from H&M
Silver glitter tights from Pieces
Pink tights from H&M
Black star tights from Pieces

Now we have the skirts. It took a few days to get used to something so fitted and so much shorter than my Lolita skirts.

Pencil skirt from H&M
Flowy glitter tulle skirt from Vero Moda
Glitter lace skirts from H&M
I also got these two belts:

From H&M
Now the tops: Most of them are long and loose which I really like with those tight skirts. Also they have either short sleeves or no sleeves at all, because I want to wear my work cardigan over them without it getting too warm.
Black chiffon top - Vero Moda
Printed chiffon tshirt from Vero Moda
Black chiffon from Vero Moda
Mirrored eagle top from Topshop
Flowy star print top from Only
Glitter forest print from Next
And I got these two glitter cardigans from H&M. They're just so perfect. Especially the silver one. I want to wear it all the time, haha.
H&M
Now these two rings are actually old, but I've been wearing them a lot, especially the black one.
Gina Tricot
And for the nails, I bought the three small bottles in a set in H&M and the black one is just an old basic black nailpolish from Gosh.

I really like the glitter one ^^

All right, now I have a few things coming in the mail as well.

This bracelet from HRH. I really like her designs and I love those wrap bracelet styles. So I went ahead and ordered the Ombre Noir. I think it doubles as a necklace which is cool.
It's the middle one. Silver and black wrap bracelet.
I've seen some very similar ones on etsy for a cheaper price, but I'm fairly sure it's HRH's original design, at least as far as I've understood, so I chose to support that. I'll be sure to post more about it when it arrives.

Then I ordered these silver pants from the H&M website, because I had a voucher for 25% off, so I thought I'd take advantage of that. I can't even remember when was the last time I bought a pair of pants. I haven't owned any for years, so I have no idea if these will fit me, but I hope so of course.

Yay, silver :D
Lastly, I'm waiting for this Tshirt dress from a seller on etsy.

I love the skeleton print.
All right, so those are the first items to build my new wardrobe, I hope to post some outfit shots soon. I also dyed my hair black again. It's just with a semi-permanent dye and my hair didn't take very well to it, so I'll have to do it again soon and use two bottles.

Upsides
  • I like being able to go into stores and not having to constantly evaluate items I like to see whether or not they will fit with my lolita wardrobe.
  • Clothes in highstreet shops are a lot cheaper than Lolita clothes. It's nice to buy more than one or two items at a time.
  • I've gotten a lot of positive reactions already. People seem surprised that my ass isn't actually as huge as my petticoats imply, haha. But seriously, people have complimented me and the comment "Are you going out somewhere later?" seem to be popular, so I guess, I'm "still" a bit overdressed for the norm, but I really like it, so that won't stop ;)
  • Accessibility. It is quite nice, actually, to be able to buy clothes in shops nearby and not have to order everything from Japan and China.
  • Coordination. I feel like wearing Lolita has taught me everything I know about coordination (well, Lolita and Trinny and Susannah ;)), so for once in my life I actually feel like I have a wardrobe in which I can mix and match items without looking like a traffic victim. Before Lolita, I didn't really have any general look or style. I was very plain, except for my punk/goth years in which I just looked downright ridiculous. ;)

Identity crisis?
So what now? Have I quit wearing Lolita? Shall I sell all my dresses? Do I have to find a way to merge the two styles?
The answer: No.
Ofcourse, I don't have to choose between the two styles. I'll wear Lolita whenever I feel like it. It'll probably only be on my days off, I'll no longer wear it to work, because I am relieved to be rid of the impracticality of wearing Lolita there.

Although, as it is right now, I don't feel super drawn to Lolita, so it may be a while before I start doing elaborate outfits again, but I feel it's only natural at this point. I've had a really long run of being so into the style, especially these past two or three months, and I've just been spending most of my sparetime soaked in it, that it only seems natural to take a short break from it, so I can come back with renewed energy and new inspiration.

Don't worry, I'll still post about Lolita things, but a few non-lolita things may sneak their way onto this blog aswell. I hope you don't mind.

Thanks for reading this far, I'd love to read about what all of you wear outside of Lolita! :3
